Classic Blog Post: Sometimes It’s Not What You’d Expect

Thursday, August 28th, 2014

I did it. I crammed so much into a day before leaving for DragonCon that I didn’t leave enough time to write a new blog post. Fortunately, it’s been a REALLY long time since I pulled one out from the MySpace blogging days, so I handpicked this one just for you. It harkens back to my high school days. You see, I got up the nerve to contact someone in 2010 via Facebook who’d bullied me back when I was a sophomore, junior and senior. His response was…unexpected. Have a look for yourself.

Classic Blog Post: Death of a Nemesis

Original MySpace Publication Date: October 28, 2009

You know those people who touch our lives? No, no. Not the ones who touch us. That’s a whole different blog. I mean the ones who touch our lives in a non-physical sense. But even beyond that. I mean the ones who touch our lives in a non-physical sense who we wish would go touch a live wire instead, one whipping around on the ground and sparking…lots. Exactly. Those people.

CBP: Halloween H20 + CiSO4 = CuSO4*Too Many Bad Halloween Sequels

Original MySpace Publication Date: October 12, 2009
Ah, there’s nothing quite like Halloween season, a time when most wimpy people I know actually stop complaining when I pull a horror movie out to watch. Now, mind you, I only bring out the best discs when I have company; “The Howling 2”, “Dracula 3000”, “Jaws: The Revenge”, “Amityville 3”, “I Still Know Who You Did Last Summer”…

The list goes on and those films combined with my love of the fall season equals perfect writing weather, especially when spinning a yarn about the Grandmonster. Or, as the case may be, a not-so-fictional account about the Grandmonster.

Classic Blog Post: Is This Your Thing?

Saturday, November 9th, 2013

Original MySpace Publication Date: October 01, 2009

I had a conversation with a friend at DragonCon and we were catching each other up about what we were working on, future potential projects etc etc.  The conversation turned to the book I’d just submitted to my publisher and I mentioned that I was experiencing some confusion about why I wrote it and what it meant to me.  This prompted a series of questions from him.

Classic Blog Post: Pure Dumba$$

Original MySpace Publication Date: September 27, 2009
Greetings and salutations!

Two quick announcements before getting to the good stuff! First, a reminder to everybody who happens to be in the Palm Springs area that my guy and I will be out there during Pride Fest (Saturday and Sunday, November 7th and 8th, 2009) signing books in the Author’s Village. Well, I’ll be signing. He’ll be looking at me and shaking his head. It’s just what he does.

Classic Blog Post: Gaylias: Birth of a New Series

“I wanna be a star!” –Sigue Sigue Sputnik

Me? I’d settle for a decent cup of tea.

So, one might assume by the title of the e-mail/blog/note that the new book is complete. One would be correct. It’s now got a copyright and it’s been sent in to the publisher. What does this mean? Provided things go according to how the other two books went, it’ll be released next summer. However, lots can happen between now and then. The title could change, they might edit it further (I already knocked it down from 368 pages to 308) or they might not even like it.

Classic Blog Post: Ooh, Pretty!

Saturday, September 28th, 2013

Original MySpace Publication Date: August 16, 2009

There’s a notorious set of radio commercials that play here in the Metro Detroit area for Beaumont Hospitals that seriously scare the hell out of people.  They scare the hell out of me.  If something is going wrong in your life, medically speaking, or can, you’d better have a Beaumont doctor because these folks will play on every fear you can possibly imagine.

So, imagine these symptoms; constant headaches, achy eyes, irritability, unexplainable neediness, desire for complete privacy while experiencing unexplainable neediness, restless sleep, emotional breakdowns and a hunger for large Vlasic pickles.  Got a diagnosis?  I do.

It’s called EDITING.

NovelSpot Blog Day 5

We made it! We made it to Friday!

For those of you who are still awake and for the hundreds…maybe tens…okay, one of you who’s kept up with my blogs this week, let me reiterate. I’m author Kage Alan and you’ve been reading my behind the scenes experiences of how my books (Honor Unbound, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to My Sexual Orientation and Andy Stevenson Vs. the Lord of the Loins) made it into print.

Miracle or act of Scientology? You decide.

NovelSpot Blog Day 4

Episode IV: Promotion (or Bouncing A Quarter Off Your Bum)

Welcome to Thursdays with Kage Alan! I’m your host this week for a behind-the-scenes look at how some of us lucky buggars actually managed to get our ideas into print and onto cyber-bookshelves or, if we’re really lucky, actual bookshelves. I’m still trying to get to that “really lucky” stage. I guess I’m in that “moderate-to-sorta lucky” gray D-list stage sitting next to Kathy Griffin. She steals my Oreos when I’m not looking.

NovelSpot Blog Day 2
Magandang hapon po! Or as they say in Detroit, good afternoon…or “yo” or “wassup”. We’re a bit informal around here.

Anyway, enough about you. Where were we?

Ah, yes. I’m Kage Alan and this is day 2 of my week-long blog of behind-the-scenes on how my books ever saw the light of day. (And, just for the record, I don’t believe in needing a card to get a sale price at a store. Why apply for a loyalty card when there’s no chance of my being loyal? I’m just sayin’.)
