Would Tennessee Hire Paul Bunyan If He Was Gay?

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Someone on Twitter gave me a nice compliment the other day. He said that I give things a nice twist when I talk about them and that I should keep expressing myself about things that go against what the masses think.  It’s food for thought.  The masses certainly go against me from time to time.  They liked The Hangover and I never bothered to watch it until this weekend despite being told how funny it was–and I laughed my ass off.  Certain masses in Tennessee don’t agree with me right now, either.  Or is it me who doesn’t agree with them?

Classic Blog Post: Premature Articulation (or How My Weekend Went)

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Original Publication Date: 5/08/07

It still feels a little premature and I’m most likely getting my hopes up, but the publisher of my first book was bought by some people claiming to have a better grasp of the business.  They’re reviewing A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To My Sexual Orientation for possible re-publication (with a new cover!) as well as the sequel for its first printing.  It may not happen, but then again it might.  I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

The Top 5…Uh…3 Things Writers WON’T Tell You!

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Writers are tricky little shits.  We are.  We know things you don’t and we’ve been forced to take an oath of silence that we frequently break whenever it suits us.  I suppose that makes us opportunistic little shits to boot.  So be it.  We wear it well, some of us better than others.  But, I thought it was high time to tease some of you with a few things I might get in trouble for revealing, only it’s really nothing you couldn’t already figure out if you sat down and thought about it long enough.  Ready?

Now THAT’S Funny! Well, Kinda Sorta. Mostly.

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

I have a pretty good idea when I stick my foot in my mouth.  The biggest subtle hint is the look on someone’s face; squishy, irritated, uglyish and typically attempting to blurt several responses all at the same time, yet usually never finding their way into intelligible words.  And then sometimes there’s the less-than-subtle hints.  If I’m going to be completely fair, it’s not always my fault.  Some people have it coming and some people need a reminder that they may be ‘all that’ in their head, but without folks like little ol’ me, their passive aggressive behavior wouldn’t be diagnosed.  Allow me to give you a few examples.

Classic Blog Post: Verbally 69ing With A Psychic
Original Publication Date: 3/29/07

I hesitated writing anything else about the party with the psychic after writing the first part, but only because there was some very personal information related during my session.  Does one ever really know what will find its way out into the light of day…or at least a brightly lit room?  Heck no!  There are things about me that I don’t even acknowledge to myself, so why would I want someone else to blab it out loud?  Such information should remain personal.  Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.  So, in the name artistic integrity…of some kind anyway…I’ll start at the beginning of the session and work my way forward.

Is It A Trick Question When Someone Asks Where You Want It?

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

I’m not fond of rude…  No.  I completely and somewhat entirely don’t like stupid…  Uh, uh.  Okay.  I have an issue with annoying people and that covers rude folks and that other kind of person I mentioned.  I’ve stated in the past that we need to stop putting off some of the things in life we can do now with our loved ones because we don’t know what the future will bring.  And when it does arrive, it may be too late.  The same can be said for dealing with those annoying folks I mentioned.  I’m getting too old not to be calling things out as I see them and you know what?  I kinda like it.  Oh, I so just had a Lady Gaga I was Born This Way moment!

Sanity Check At The Oh-My-God-You’re-Old Corral

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Whether by design or my own allowance, the folks I work with have made me feel old.  I find that the jokes I used to aim at those older than myself are now being aimed at me.  Do I like it?  No, not really.  Do I understand it?  Yup.  It’s a rite of passage.  It’s a part of life.  And one day, these buggars will pay!  Karma will catch up to you, beyotches!  In the meantime, I had my best friend from college over for a visit this past weekend with his girlfriend and it made me realize that the 4 days they were here was a sanity check for myself.  I had no idea just how much I needed this weekend!  Things got off to a rocky start, though.

Medication Can Suck It…And Here’s Why

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

The grocery shopping is done, dinner is finished, the dishwasher is running, the shower was nice and hot and I’ve got episodes of Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot playing on the TV.  Life is good.  I did have to take a Benadryl, though.  Stupid allergies kicked in.  And that got me to thinking about my run-ins with medication throughout the years.  It hasn’t been pretty.  Oh, no.  Not even close.

Black Swan Vs. Red Lobster & The Motorcity Comicon

Monday, May 9th, 2011

Mom loved her flowers for Mother’s Day and my mother-in-law loved hers.  I suspect her other son saw my previous blog where I mentioned he never bothered to send her any because some mysteriously showed up.  lol  At least the git still learns and he did put his brother’s name on it.  The Pookster called and said he got double billing since both flower deliveries had his name on the card, which made him quite happy.  Also bit the bullet and watched Black Swan between Saturday and Sunday.  Well acted?  Sure.  Good direction?  Yes.  Competent film making?  Absolutely.  Did I enjoy it?  Not a bit.

Classic Blog Post: My Psychic & I…or is that My Psychic & Me?
Original Publication Date: 3/13/07

I’ve told several of my friends about a party my boss at the day job threw a couple of weeks ago, the night I returned from Kentucky actually.  She invited a psychic and anybody who wanted a reading could pay for one.  I’ve always wanted to do that, only never had the opportunity and my partner has always scoffed when I brought it up.  Taking all of that into consideration, how could I not participate?  Well, while I’ve told my friends a few of the tamer bits from the session, I’ve not told them other parts…until now.
